Business Profile

Launched in 2000, English Folly was started by Briony Wilkinson as a hand painted wedding stationery business born out of her artistic background and experience in the wedding industry.

After gaining a BA Hons in Fashion Design at Nottingham Trent University, Briony moved into the world of couture bridal design in London, but soon decided she wanted to start her own wedding business and having been inspired by Botanical Plates of the 1700 & 1800's took it in a more fine art direction.

With a move for her family to Singapore in 2009, forcing a break from English Folly, Briony had a chance to reassess her inspiration and after getting involved in making costumes for her son's school production she fell back in love with her sewing machine. After immersing herself in the fabric shops in Chinatown, Little India and Arab Street, under the brand English Folly Abroad, the textile range was born.

Having been an expat for 5 years Briony's main inspiration in Singapore was 'a taste of home' and her love of typography has culminated in the extensive range of gifts and home furnishings in the range today. Now back home in the UK and with the support of her family she is delighted to launch these beautiful and unique products to a wider market.
