Business Profile

Welcome To The Ferry Inn The Ferry Inn is an ancient Seventeenth Century pub and restaurant that was the home of the ferry between the Isle-of-Oxney and the English mainland at Appledore. It is situated in the midst of beautiful countryside between Tenterden Appledore Stone-in-Oxney and Wittersham and adjoins the historic Saxon Shore Way. It is also only 6 miles away from Rye and Camber Sands.

History The Ferry Inn was built in 1690 to refresh and accommodate the travellers who would then cross over the outlet of the River Rother to the mainland! The existing narrow watercourse you see today is called the 'Reading Street Sewer' (or ditch, or dyke) and is the Southern edge of the Old Rother, which was up to a quarter of a mile wide in parts at the time.
